Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Mac OS X Meets WWII

Beyond Castle Wolfenstein

Multiplayer Play

There are three modes in the multiplayer portion of Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Objectives: Each team has a certain number of objectives to complete. In some maps, the team that completes its objectives first is the winner. In other maps, one team will try to accomplish certain tasks while the other tries to prevent them from succeeding; if the team on offense completes its goals, it’s the winner, while the team on defense is the winner if it keeps the other team from succeeding.

Checkpoints: Each team must capture and successfully defend certain areas on the map, known as checkpoints. The team that holds the most checkpoints when time runs out is the winner.

Stopwatch: This mode is just like the objectives mode, except the teams switch sides when a winner is declared and try to beat the other team’s time.

Character Classes

engineerEngineers: These guys can plant and defuse dynamite (if an engineer is killed after planting the explosives, another engineer can come over and arm them) as well as repair the mounted machine guns.

medicMedics: Each of these characters supplies his team with 10 extra health points at the beginning of the game. He can also drop health packs for other players to pick up (this is vital since the multiplayer maps don’t have health packs scattered around them the way the single-player maps do).

lieutenantLieutenants: The lieutenants run the show for each team. They come equipped with binoculars, and they can call in air strikes that will take out a large portion of the other team’s defenses.

soldierSoldiers: The “grunts” on each team, the soldiers can use all the weapons available in the game, whereas the other characters can use a limited number of them. However, they don’t have any special abilities.
Adversaries

Want to know who will try to make B.J.’s visit to Castle Wolfenstein an unpleasant one? You’ll find them below.

engineerWorker/Engineer: These German citizens won’t offer much resistance, but they do have a sneaky habit of surrendering and then shooting you with their Luger pistols when you turn your back.

soldierNazi Soldier: These guys are a dime a dozen. Unfortunately, they can be quite deadly in large numbers, thanks to their Mauser rifles and MP40 submachine guns.

officerNazi Officer: While the officers are equipped only with pistols, they have much better marksmanship than the soldiers.

eliteElite Guard: These women of the SS Paranormal Division are dressed in leather and carry Sten submachine guns. They like to work in teams, so watch out.

SS Black Guard: Himmler’s personal bodyguards carry FG42 paratroop rifles and will defend him to the death.

Scientist: The Nazi scientists spend their time deep in the bowels of Castle Wolfenstein, where they carry out Himmler’s unspeakable experiments. While they aren’t heavily armed and don’t make very good fighters, they won’t hesitate to call for the guards when they see you.

Loper: Part animal, part machine, the lopers attack with their razor-sharp claws and fire lightning bolts at you. They can leap far, which makes them deadly even if they seem to be out of reach.

Zombie: These resurrected corpses from nearby cemeteries are slow, but they make up for that with phantom skulls that they throw at you.

Zombie Knight: The zombies who prove to be worthy fighters are given swords and shields, which they can use to deflect gunfire.

Fire Zombie: The ultimate zombie fighters, these creatures can spew streams of fire at you.

Uber Soldat (Super Soldier) prototype: Half man, half machine, the uber soldat prototypes are the result of early Nazi scientist experiments. They wear full body armor and carry either venom guns or panzerfausts (rocket launchers).

Uber Soldat (Super Soldier): After Himmler’s scientists perfected their prototypes, they produced the final versions of the uber soldat. They wear heavier armor than their predecessors and are known to carry tesla guns in addition to venom guns or panzerfausts.
