Fallout: Post-Nuclear Survival on Mac OS X

Survival Guide

Tips
  1. It’s important that you save the game as often as possible. You can be killed quickly and unexpectedly, and if you’ve not saved the game regularly, you will have to replay it from your last save point.

  2. Can’t seem to steal from someone? Reduce the target’s perception by giving him alcohol.

  3. At times, your lock pick will break off in a keyhole and jam the door. No worries — simply place an explosive next to the door and set the timer.

  4. You’ll get free ammunition each time you have your weapon upgraded. Algernon in New Reno will upgrade your weapons for free, too.

Enemies

As you journey through the harsh wastelands of Fallout 2, you will engage a wide range of enemies. Here is a roundup of the creatures and machinery you can expect to encounter in your travels.

Brahmin
These domesticated two-headed cows won’t give you much of problem… unless they’ve gone mad.

Wild Dog
A vicious wolf-like canine. You’ll find they’re more of an annoyance than anything else.

Giant Ant
A nasty little insect that is easily defeated.

Mantis
Another nasty insect that tends to come in large groups. They can pose a major threat if they get you surrounded.

Lesser Scorpion/Giant Scorpion
These vicious critters can poison you with a well-placed tail attack. Keep your distance.

Rat/Pigrat/Molerat
This set of marsupials just love to sink their teeth into your flesh. They vary greatly in strength — at the low end, you’ll find the rat very easy to defeat, while at the high end, the molerat can pose a real threat.

Centaur
This two-headed, six-legged humanoid monstrosity is as disturbing as it is tough. It’s rather slow, though, so you can attack it from a distance.

Deathclaw
These mutated monsters are very fast and very strong, and you’ll often encounter them in groups.

Floater
This horror of nature has a huge maw atop its snake-like body. Its lashing tongue attack can deliver a lethal dose of poison, so be careful.

Gecko
A large lizard that stands upright. It comes in several variants, too, the most lethal of which is the Fire Gecko. And yes, he spits fire at you.
  Robots
You’ll encounter a number of robots in your travels. The Floating Eye is quick but weak; RoboBrain is a small tank-like device that packs a variety of rifles; and Sentries are walking mechanical monstrosities armed with miniguns and rockets. Mr. Handy, on the other hand, is a unique robot with several mechanical arms. It’s tough, and it can leave you broken and bruised.

Turrets
These automated defense sentries pack a lot of punch and can take a lot of damage. One model is armed with twin miniguns, while another is equipped with twin pulse cannons.

Spore Plant
This nasty little plant likes to shoot thorns at you. Get too close, and it will sink its teeth into you, too.

Super Mutants
These muscled mutants have been hitting the gym pretty regularly. You’ll tend to encounter them in squads, and they’re usually equipped with a variety of high-powered weapons.

Alien
These mysterious visitors are tough and strong. They’ll inflict a lot of pain if they get close to you, so keep your distance.

Humans
The strength and speed of the humans you encounter will vary immensely throughout the game. Many are little more than a nuisance, but others will be equipped with powerful weapons, armor, and even combat-enhancing drugs.
