Which characters will you send on the games missions? Use this handy guide to help you figure that out.
Minuteman (real name: Frank Stiles):
The first character youll meet in the game, Minuteman is the reluctant leader of Freedom Force. Hed rather avoid the spotlight, but when hes placed in the public eye he always has something to say (his favorite saying is For freedom!). Hes strong and quick and can jump high, but his long-range attacks are limited. |
Mentor (real name: unknown):
Human minds are so varied and powerful, yet so very fragile, this hero likes to say. His origin is a mystery, and he prefers to remain aloof, even among his comrades, but his strong psychic abilities make him a valuable asset to the team. He can use them to do everything from pacifying crowds to picking up cars, but he has limited flight capability. |
El Diablo (real name: Ricardo Ramirez):
This hot-headed hero sports the ability to fly as well as fire short bursts of high-intensity flames. However, his quick temper leads him to sometimes overuse the latter power and run out of it prematurely, and hes vulnerable to cold-based attacks. His flight capability, however, makes him a valuable scout. |
Manbot (real name: Ted Taylor):
The recipient of a large dose of the mysterious power called Energy X, Manbot is confined to a powerful suit of armor that constantly siphons off extra energy. He lives in never-ending fear that one day the suit will overload and detonate, flattening a city, but in the meantime hes useful for quickly restoring the energy lost by other heroes, in addition to his powerful, close-range attacks. He joined Freedom Force in the hope that they can help him discover a cure for his condition. |
Alche-Miss (real name: Catherine Larchmont-Price):
This self-described Southern belle employs mysterious, magical powers that allow her to attack with energy blasts. Shes the only member of the team who can close portals to other worlds, and she seems to have a secret crush on Manbot.
Man O War (real name: Hank Waters):
Water-based attacks are this heros forte. Hes a gruff man who has little time for niceties, except for his concern for the 12-year-old superheroine Sea Urchin, who is more or less his sidekick. His immunity to electrical attacks will come in handy during several missions.
Sea Urchin (real name: Merry Mason):
This young girls bubbly personality serves as an effective counter-point to Man O Wars eternal pessimism. Her attacks are weak and she lacks hit points, however, so youre better off leaving her at Freedom Force headquarters during most missions. You can expect to see her develop into a stronger hero in future games.
The Ant (real name: John Miller):
The Ant is the obligatory bad-guy-turned-good-guy, and hes useful when you need someone to climb walls or lift heavy objects. He can also tunnel through concrete and other hard substances, and his acid bomb attacks are very useful at close range.
Liberty Lad (real name: Nick Craft):
Many consider him to be Minutemans sidekick, but Liberty Lad usually protests the appellation. He received his powers from Minuteman, however, so the Freedom Force leader usually looks after the precocious 15-year-old. Hes still developing his abilities, so hes not always one of the best
characters to take on a mission, although he does prove himself useful now
and again.
Law & Order (real names: Jane Whitney and Don Samson):
These two actually inhabit the same body, and you can switch between the two personas with the transform command. Law is quick and elusive, with moderate attacks, while Order is big and strong, with powerful, close-range attacks.
Microwave (real name: ARC):
A robot sent from the future to destroy Freedom Force, Microwave switched sides when Mentor reprogrammed him. Hes slow and cant fly, but he does have the ability to clone himself and teleport out of tight spots, as well as employ radiation attacks against the bad guys. His real name comes from the name of Freedom Forces computer, which originally wanted him to be a remote-controlled defense system but changed its mind when it discovered that it could vicariously share in the teams adventures through Microwave.
The Bullet (real name: Clint Coltrane):
Able to move at dizzying speeds, The Bullet can easily dodge enemy attacks and take on several of them at the same time. If you can get some of the villains to chase him around, you can direct the rest of your team to attack them while they concentrate on a target they cant hit. The Bullet also has considerable strength.
Eve (real name: unknown):
Eve simply appeared in a park one day, wearing no clothes and clutching a powerful bow. When police tried to apprehend her, this seven-foot-tall heroine easily defeated all of them, drawing the attention of Freedom Force, who took her in. In addition to her bow and arrows, she boasts the ability to control plants and animals and can even accelerate plant growth, which is useful when you want to immobilize a few bad guys.
