Species and Races
There are 7 known species in Master of Orion III, each with 1-3 races to choose from. You cant play as the New Orions nor as some of the other races that you will encounter, such as the Varakesh. (Who are they? Youll have to play the game to find out.)
Humanoid
| Humans:
Everyone in the Orion Sector knows that you must be cautious when dealing with humans. They are open in their negotiations and trade, but they will quickly become hostile if they dont get what they want. |
|
|
Ichthytosian Species
| Trilarian:
This fish-like race appreciates the arts and lives mostly peaceful lives. As one of the oldest races in the Orion Sector, they revere tradition. |
|
| Evon:
These mysterious creatures are almost as enigmatic as the New Orions. Few understand their complex rituals. |
| Psilon:
During the Dark Age, the Psilons allowed the Antaran overlords to experiment on their bodies in the hope of currying favor from them. This resulted in a race of creatures who are today too weak to move without the assistance of technology. |
|
|
| Nommo:
These cephalopods once co-existed with the Trilarians but left to create a militaristic, religious empire. They still resent that the Trilarians inhabit what they insist is their home world, and they sometimes engage in holy wars with them to try and get it back. |
|
Cybernetik Species
| Meklar:
They call themselves the Pure Ones because they have completely shed biological matter and evolved into a race of free-thinking machines. They look down on all flesh-based races and hate the Cynoid because they have not become pure yet. |
|
|
Etherean Species
| Imsaeis:
The mushroom-shaped Imsaeis are very agreeable, even ingratiating, to outsiders, but they secretly desire to be in control. |
|
| Cynoid:
Part machine, part flesh, the Cynoid are a ruthless race that understands the value of an Antaran Unit (the MOO equivalent of a dollar). |
|
|
| Eoladi:
Each Eoladi follows its own code of ethics, which often confounds other empires representatives. |
|
Saurian Species
| Sakkra:
These lizard-like creatures left the Ichthytosian home world thousands of galactic cycles ago. They are aggressive and hostile and they hate all Ichthytosian races. |
| Raas:
Bred by other Saurians as slave labor, the Raas revolted and eventually earned their freedom. |
| Grendarl:
The Grendarls strength comes from a clan mentality that places the group before the individual. These warriors view death on the battlefield as the highest honor possible. |
|
|
Geodic Species
| Silicoid:
Orion Sector historians believe these crystalline creatures came from the shards of a giant, sentient crystal that was shattered many cycles ago. Each young Silicoid is sheared off one of its parents and incubated in a nutrient bath, a process that takes a very long time. |
|
Insectoid Species
| Klackons:
These praying mantis-like creatures exist as part of the Klackon Mind Hive, which completely subjugates original thought in favor of the needs of the collective. Their industry is among the most efficient in the Orion Sector. |
| Tachidi:
They look like a cross between a hermit crab and the crab-like Garthim from the movie The Dark Crystal, but theyre actually very docile and curious. Unlike the Klackons, the Tachidi value individual thought. |
