Tips and Tricks
Applicable to Two or More Groups:
- Garrison your infantry in civilian buildings instead of building new structures. Its best to have a mix of troops in there, as some are better than others against certain enemy units.
- The GLAs Toxin Tractor and the Chinese Dragon Tank can destroy a building in a single shot, so make sure you evacuate a garrisoned building if you see one of those units headed toward it.
- Keep your supply centers as close as possible to your supply piles, so that the gatherers dont have to move as far to drop off their loads.
- Take the high ground whenever possible. You can fire down on the enemy before they can get up where you are.
- Keep that old kids game Rock, Paper, Scissors in mind when assembling your forces, especially if you know what your enemy is building. Every unit in the game has a weakness, so exploit it: send vehicles equipped with anti-aircraft missiles against planes and helicopters, for example. (Youd be surprised how many gamers dont consider this and just amass a huge army of whatever units they feel like building.)
- Use rally points to make sure that your newly created troops and vehicles arent just standing around your base. Move them out to a position where they can do some good, especially if youre otherwise occupied and dont have time to go back to your base and manually direct them.
- Patrols are another good way to make sure your newly created units have something to do while youre mounting an attack. Set up patrols along the perimeter of your base.
- Move land vehicles and ground forces ahead of artillery, allowing you to simultaneously hit the enemy head-on with the front line and from above with the artillery.
- Create unit shortcuts by dragging a box around a group of them and pressing the Control key and then a number. Now every time you press that number, youll immediately begin to control that group. You can do the same thing with positions on the map, but press one of the F keys to create those shortcuts.
- In addition, the H key allows you to quickly jump to your Command Center, and pressing the Spacebar any time youre alerted to an attack on your forces brings you to the scene of the skirmish.
- Vehicles only have to bump infantry to instantly run them over and kill them, so use that tactic rather than staying back and firing at them. This is highly effective against troops armed with missiles, as they can make fast work of a slow-firing tank.
- Flanking moves are an effective way to take out an opponent who has built her defenses in anticipation of a head-on attack. Fire away from both sides and youll likely take out her defenses before she can decide where to shoot.
- Sometimes it makes sense to amass an army as fast as possible and rush a nearby enemy, taking him out or doing severe damage to his forces before he can mount a defense. Use spy units to check him out his strength first, if possible.
USA
- Use two Chinook helicopters per supply center: one to pick up a load while the other is dropping one off. Assigning more than that to a supply center is a waste as the extra copters will be stuck waiting their turn.
- Note that Chinooks are $1,200 each, but you get one each time you build a supply center for $2,000, which can later be sold for half the cost. This method earns you a Chinook, which can also be used to transport troops, for $200 less.
- Dont forget that the Colonel Burton hero can climb up and down mountains, which is handy when the enemy takes the high road.
- Colonel Burton can also place remote demo charges on just about anything, including vehicles. If youre playing against China, have him place charges on their supply trucks and then use his assault rifle to chase them back to their base, where you can detonate the charges and destroy the surrounding buildings. Repeat as needed.
- Select the paratroopers upgrade from the General window. If you see a group of tanks huddled in one area, drop your paratroopers in the center of them. They will die, but the outlying tanks will fire on the ones in the center as they kill your paratroopers, thus destroying their own units.
- Against the GLA, use snipers to take out the rocket troopers in the stinger nests.
- Place a sniper and 4 rocket launcher-equipped soldiers in one Humvee, making it effective against both tanks and ground troops.
- Computer-controlled opponents like to go after Humvees first, which gives you the option to use them as decoys or lures.
- Give your Rangers the flash bang capability, which makes them highly effective against other troops and GLA mobs.
China
- Make sure other units dont get in the Dragon Tanks line of fire, unless theyre other Dragon Tanks, which are flame resistant. Otherwise, your infantry and vehicles will be reduced to ashes.
- Dragon Tanks can create an effective wall of flame that keeps opposing forces out. You can then hit them with artillery or missiles from behind the fire wall.
- Ten hackers can produce $100 every 6 seconds. Make sure you protect them, though, by placing them as far behind the front lines as possible and by placing a propaganda tower and a few Gatling Gun Turrets nearby. And spread them out a bit so that an air strike on one group doesnt produce splash damage that takes out the others.
- A solid defense often consists of bunkers loaded with rocket-equipped infantry and Gatling guns. They make for a lethal combination that your enemies will be hard-pressed to defeat.
- Radio towers heal troops around them, so build them on the perimeter of your base, where they can do some good on defense.
- Hit a target with multiple MiG fighters to create a bigger firestorm.
GLA
- Use the Rocket Buggies for hit and run raids: Fire off as many missiles as possible and then take off. If you wait around for the counter-attack, their armor is too light to withstand the damage.
- Create six workers when you first start. Thats enough to get good cash flow from your supply pile, and you can always pull one or two off that duty when you need to erect buildings.
- Use the Capture Building ability to nab an enemys Command Center when youve just about defeated them. This brings their forces over to your side.
- Use the Jarmen Kell hero to snipe a bulldozer driver and take it over. Now you can use the dozer to build an enemy Command Center and get access to its units.
- Angry mobs can be very effective, with the right back-up. Equip them with AK-47s and they can do a lot of damage.
- Use the GLAs tunneling ability to quickly move troops between the barracks and the front lines.
- Dont forget that Toxin Tractors can also contaminate the ground around a target, causing residual damage to any units that venture through it.
- SCUD missiles dont require extra power, which allows you to build multiple SCUD storms.
- Take over civilian vehicles and smash them into your enemy forces, taking them out quickly. One vehicle can often take out a tank, which cant fire fast enough to destroy it first.
