The Heroes
Toa Tahu

Toa Tahu: In charge of Ta-Wahi, a region dominated by the Mangai volcano, Tahu uses the power of fire to his advantage. Guide him among the crumbling rocks and floating platforms of the area as he embarks on the first phase of the quest to defeat Makuta. He possesses no special powers, but he does own a lava board you can use to surf Ta-Wahi’s lava flows.

Toa Kopaka

Toa Kopaka: Ko-Wahi, where Kopaka makes his home, features majestic icy peaks, the highest of which is Mount Ihu. Like Tahu, he uses a board to surf his environment. Unlike his fellow hero, he has a special ability: the option to quickly slow down or accelerate, which comes in handy as he zips across Ko-Wahi’s deep snow.

Gali Nuva

Gali Nuva: The first of the heroes you control after unlocking Toa Huva, Gali is the only female among the six foretold by Turaga Vakama’s prophecy. Her region, Ga-Wahi, features clear rivers and streams that flow from Lake Naho and wind along a lush coastal area.

Sporting a sleek physique, Gali’s special abilities include diving from great heights into the water, leaping out of the water and swimming with great speed. In addition, her weapons include the devastating Nuva Blast, which she can only unleash when she’s standing still. Nuva Blasts are highly effective against Makuta’s strongest henchmen and can be used to cut through dark elemental energy barriers.

Pohatu Nuva

Pohatu Nuva: Po-Wahi’s vast deserts and deep canyons find themselves under the protective shadow of Pohatu, whose great strength enables him to quickly accelerate or slow down when necessary.

Onua Nuva

Onua Nuva: You will even find Matorans living deep underground, in Onu-Wahi. Onua’s powerful arms allow him to move large boulders and other heavy objects and he can see in the dark with his infrared vision, giving him an advantage over Makuta’s minions. He also has access to the same high-powered Nuva Blast that Gali uses.

Lewa Nuva

Lewa Nuva: Lewa lives among the trees of Le-Wahi, where he jumps between their limbs, using vines to cross wide gaps. He can accelerate or slow down whenever he needs a boost of speed or finds himself about to fall from a great height. Lewa can also glide across spaces where no vines are present.

Toa of Light: The seventh hero incorporates Lewa’s special abilities as well as an infinite amount of elemental energy, which frees you to focus on the final battle with Makuta. His weapons include a special double blast.

Bionicle: A Brief History

The Lego Company introduced Bionicle in 2001, eager to create a mythology as rich as Star Wars and the other properties that the company had turned into block sets on a licensing basis. The story found in Feral’s Bionicle game is the same one that launched the toy line that year, although Lego also emphasized personalities for the six Toa: Tahu’s fiery temper, Kopaka’s even-keeled attitude, Gali’s wisdom, Pohatu’s friendly nature, Onua’s mysterious aloofness and Lewa’s sense of humor and fierce loyalty.

While four of the heroes in the game feature Toa Nuva abilities, all six of them have been upgraded to that status in Lego’s toy line. Since 2001, the Bionicle story has been continued in comic books, movies, trading cards and other media, in addition to the materials that come with the toys.

Makuta can be defeated but always returns to fight another day, of course, and the fate of the Bohroks’ imprisoned queens remains a “gun on the mantelpiece,” figuratively speaking, that will likely become a problem for our heroes somewhere down the line.
