How do I find my own computer’s IP address?

A good bet is to contact your Internet service provider (ISP) or check the materials they gave you when you enrolled. You may have been assigned a static IP address that never changes, or a dynamic IP address that is different every time you log on to the Internet. Your ISP should have the details.

Alternatively, you can use a free utility like “IP Locator.” Similar utilities are available on VersionTracker.

Thanks to GameRanger and game lobbies, you usually won’t have to bother with IP addresses, but if you do it’s often as simple as exchanging IP addresses with another player ahead of time.

For a completely different take on multiplayer games, massive and otherwise, check out Simutronics Corporation and Skotos Tech. These companies specialize in prose (text)-based storytelling, a fancy way of saying that you play their games by typing and reading words, not by maneuvering with your mouse and watching fancy pictures. It sounds low-tech, but prose makes it possible for players to participate much more fully in the stories and encourages true role-playing.
